Antiques and Bygones, established in Durban in 1949, is one of South Africa's oldest dealers in antiques. The business is presently owned by Nick Howarth, who inherited his love of antiques from his parents. His father, Brigadier Clifford Howarth, a retired British Army officer took over the business during the 1960's.
Whilst Nick was growing up in England, Brigadier and Mrs Howarth furnished their home with antiques acquired at sales and from local dealers. Nick is a past chairman of the South African Antique Dealers Association. SA Antique Dealers Association certificates of authenticity are provided for antique items sold.
Antiques and Bygones specialize in period furniture, silver and jewellery. We also stock a selection of ceramics, paintings, glass, clocks, bronzes, candlesticks, militaria, antique collectables and objects d'art. We also carry a selection of modern hallmarked silver and Royal Doulton.
On request and at a fee, time permitting, Nick will do valuations for insurance purposes.
